Becoming KNOWN for your work.

How to build authority through clear, simple, concise and consistent marketing.

Yesterday I was going through a content creation exercise with a client where we took 50 hook templates and we inserted her expertise and niche into them.

After about 10 examples, she paused and asked if this was really a good strategy - that it all sounded one note. All the hooks were saying the same thing, in just a slightly different way.

I asked her if she wanted to be known for her knowledge and work. (She’s a health coach that works with perimenopausal women.) She replied immediately, “Absolutely.”

And the thing is, so many of you do this exact same thing. You want to be KNOWN as the person that solves the problem you solve, but you’re afraid that you’re boring, one-note or too narrow when you drill the same point home over and over again.

But I ask you - how does anyone become the known expert at something?

Is it by saying it once a week?

By mentioning the same principles a few times?

Or by ringing the bell? By going all in? By doing and saying the same thing over and over again until people link the concepts to your name.

Everyone that’s KNOWN for something has linked themselves so closely to the concept that when you think of them, THAT ONE THING is all you associate with them.

Michael Jordan = Basketball.

Sara Blakely = Shapewear.

Joanna Gaines = Farmhouse.

So instead of asking yourself “Is what I’m talking about is really ‘enough’ to say?”

Start asking “Have I said what she needed to hear ‘enough’?

Serendipitously this morning, I was listening to the Ed Mylett Podcast with Rory Vaden (excellent episode on personal branding and why it matters and worth the hour of your time to listen) and Rory gave the example of Sheehans Wall.

The concept is this: If I put a wall in front of you, and only gave you a ball, how would you tear it down?

The answer is not by throwing the ball without aim over and over again. It’s not even splitting your time amongst a few different places on the wall. It’s by throwing it at the exact same spot over and over again. That’s the only way to make progress.

Your messaging online is the same. You need to be willing to drill in on the ONE message, the ONE person, the ONE goal, over and over again, for literal years, to become KNOWN with that thing.

And you’re only making it take longer by fighting it.

Do me a favor. Fill out the equation for yourself below. What’s the ONE THING you want people to know you for?
